Cylinders

In our first grade math, we're learning about geometry. Today we analyzed spheres, cones, cubes, rectangular prisms, pyramids and cylinders. We discussed which could roll, which could slide and and which could stack.
Did you know that the cylinder is the only shape listed above that can do all three? It was the only shape that we could answer "yes" to all three categories: Can it roll? Can it slide? Can it stack? What a positive shape!
Mrs. G, our third grade teacher, overheard our discussion and stepped into our room. We decided we should all be like cylinders...we should be able to roll, to slide, to stack. We should be flexible when life throws us unforeseen and often unwelcome circumstances. When it's time to roll, we should be willing to roll, even if we wanted to slide. Sometimes we must set ourselves on end so we can slide, or lay on our sides so we can roll. We must be able to stack and be stacked upon so other people can depend upon us.
A new goal in life~to be like a cylinder!
