Great Is His Faithfulness

This morning at church we sang the familiar and traditional hymn, Great is Thy Faithfulness. The hymn was written in 1923, but its words remain timeless.
There is no shadow of turning with Thee.
I grew up knowing this hymn, and it has even more significance to me because the song was sung at each of my parent's funerals.
Thou changest not, thy compassions, they fail not;
Each time I sing the hymn now, including this morning, I am taken back to Fairfield Evangelical Covenant Church. It was there that I first learned the song, and it was there that it was sung at each of my parent's funerals.
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow;
Even when I am sitting at the piano accompanying the congregational singing, as I was this morning, I cannot resist joining in the verses.
All I have needed Thy Hand hath provided;
The words and the melody bring a smile to my face and joy to my heart, as I think of my Dad and my Mom, and the faith that I learned at home and at church, both by example and by word.
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

Great is Thy Faithfulness!

An Insightful Quote

It is better we should not know our future. If we did, we should often spoil God's plan for our life. If we could see into tomorrow and know the troubles it will bring, we might be tempted to seek some way of avoiding them, while really they are God's way to new honor and blessing. God's thoughts for us are always thoughts of love, good, promotion; but sometimes the path to the hilltop lies through dark valleys or up rough paths. Yet to miss the hard bit of road is to fail of gaining the lofty height. It is better, therefore, to walk, not knowing, with God, than it would be to see the way and choose for ourselves. God's way for us is always better than our own.
