Joy Girls

Last night at our Ladies' Bible Study ( we meet monthly, last Monday of every month if you want to drop in), we were reading Romans 12.
What a powerful chapter! We decided we needed to read that many times this month, it's so full of wisdom.
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God-this is your spritual act of worship.
I remember, when I was a young girl, that my Aunt Gladys had a girls' group in our community called the "Joy Girls".
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
All of us in the "Joy Girls" were from Fairfield, the community in which I grew up. We would meet together at Gladys and Lawrence's home. Maybe we just met in the summer, I'm not sure.
Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment.
We'd have a Bible lesson, and of course something to eat and drink, since Aunt Gladys was the queen of hospitality. (You ALWAYS had something to eat and drink at Gladys' house, no matter when or what time you stopped by.)
We have different gifts, according to the grace given us.
One summer, I remember Aunt Gladys had us memorize Romans 12, or at least most of it.
Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another over yourselves.
What better advice could Aunt Gladys leave with young girls that would follow us all of our lives?
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
Aunt Gladys never had children of her own. But she adopted all of her nephews and nieces, Sunday School students, public school students , Joy girls, and every other child that came into her life.
Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
Aunt Gladys lived by word and deed the principles of Romans 12.
And she left that impression upon the lives of all of us who were blessed to have known her.
Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
