Respect

We spent a wonderful night at The Symphony in the Flint Hills last Saturday night, and during one of the "readings" between musical pieces, the narrator referred to the word "respect". The author stated that to respect means to "look again". I turned to Gary, my resident English guru, and asked it that is really what "respect" means. He said, yes, that spect means to observe, and the prefix re- would mean again.
It made me think again about the word respect in a new way.
To respect God, others, nature, ourselves....we must "look again" and see in a new light.
One of Webster's definitions of respect says: the act of giving particular attention, consideration.
Perhaps our world, our communities, our schools, our churches, our families will become a better place when we truly "respect" each other...when we stop to look again at each other, when we look beyond the surface and see what is really there.
Respect...
